Review of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) by Steven B — 28 Oct 2008
Maggie Smith is extremely great in this film about a teacher at an all girls school who doesnâ??t quite fit in with the rest of the teachers. It starts out a little slow, but it picks up about a half an hour into it when it finds out what kind of genre it wants to be.
I loved the scene when Maggie recites the poem when sheâ??s outside with the girls. And of course, the scene with her and headmistress is great. A much deserved Best Actress win. However, I didnâ??t quite like the storyline with Sandi and the artist, which unfortunately was a big part in the film.
Still, Smithâ??s performance is reason enough to see this film.
