Review of The Pride of the Yankees (1942) by Trevor L — 30 Nov 2007
Such a touching movie about a man whose legend was made through hard work and dedication, not through steroids like today's athletes. Gary Cooper is phenomenal as Gehrig, making the legendary baseball player seen with a modesty and honor that touches one's heart the entire movie.
This is a great baseball movie, where both the man and his career get equal treatment where all aspects of his life are explored and given a humble touch to better relate to the audience. Also, "Babe" Ruth appears as himself, yet don't expect him to be either in his former athletic glory or an impressive actor: he's merely there because of his own celebrity and relationship with Lou Gehrig.
If you don't cry by the end of this movie, you must either hate baseball or something's wrong with you.
