Review of The Pride of the Yankees (1942) by Janick L — 15 Apr 2008
This is a great movie, indeed. But if you're not used to watching movies from the 1940s, you're going to go nuts by some of the cheese that is on this cracker -- particularly the hospital scene where the sick boy is like, "Oh gee, Mr.
Gehrig, will YOU hit two home runs for me?" Gag. Otherwise, it's a pretty emotional film as it nears its end and you can see the drama of Lou Gehrig's life as he is near the end of his baseball career.
The retirement speech alone is why I bought this movie and it's recreated perfectly.
