Review of The Price of Everything (2018) by Richbodo — 30 Apr 2020
If you want to be entertained with beautiful art and music and intelligent, experienced people revealing their lives work - if you want to begin to understand what "value" means - and why some things are valued more than others - then this movie movie might be for you. The concepts of uniqueness and duplication are covered in an experiential way that will give you intuition if not understanding.
This movie was meaningful to me, as my research intersects value and economics. I have never written a review here, and probably never will again, but when I saw the lack of user feedback on this one, I made an account and wrote this. I suppose the real reason I wrote this is that I just don't find movies that provide insight on this level, and the other reviewers didn't seem to get that. Don't watch this movie if you want passive entertainment. You have to be willing work with it, considering the meaning of what is happening and the revelations that the characters are experiencing, but that work will pay off if you do.
Yeah, it also gives you a fun look at the art world, but people with experience in other domains where value is the key element will recognize that as a pretty wrapper over the real content.
