Review of The Predator (2018) by Jsharbour — 29 Dec 2018
This film is a 7/8. Why should I have to counter-balance the 0 ratings? I can think of some "serious" films that deserve a 0/10 (not indie crap like Sharknado, but legit films that suck), but is this one of them? Not at all. The cast is terrific. Honestly, these are some of my favorite actors and I was so surprised to find Thomas Jane and Olivia Munn here, plus Edward Olmos, Jake Busey (who should do more films). Munn looks stunning. The actors seem very natural in their roles to me, as if they had done quite a few rehearsals. I like that this film feels "real-world" compared to the first two films which were over-the-top Hollywood crap with horrible one-liners (like "stick around") and worse effects. But I enjoy them anyway, right? The third film with Adrien Brody was an interesting side adventure that wasn't as enjoyable as this one. Also, I watched AvP again recently (the 2nd one never happened) and it has aged wonderfully since the release of Prometheus and Covenant, almost canonical, just one or two minor issues like the age of Mr. Weyland. So? Doesn't hurt the mythos, adds to it.
AVP2 is far worse than The Predator. It's a shame so many ignorant reviewers jump on here to rant about one or two minor issues and drop an ugly rating on a decent action film.
7/8 is where this belongs compared with similar films. A harsh critic would drop that down to 5/6 and I'd be okay with that.
