Review of The Predator (2018) by David H — 01 Dec 2018
It's a different take, with comic moments, so the idea of it is not offensive. What needs improvement (as usual for special effects films,) is a better script. One liners and gunplay might have been balanced by a Jeff Goldblum who's forced to be there and carries around a book of ironic poems or quotes.
The audio movie (audiobook) "Predator: If It Bleeds" just won an award in the VoiceArts competition in Hollywood (with Sigourney Weaver and Rosario Dawson on stage) and has a full cast reading related stories on the theme of the Predator, with an intro about the success of the franchise at the box office.
(I was a first round judge.) Box Office determines what films will be made in the future, not writing or plot. That's comic in itself, but with a good bag of popcorn and no high fructose corn syrup to wash it down (H2O maybe) the movie is a entertaining diversion, and not much else.
