Review of The Predator (2018) by Jim222001 — 15 Sep 2018
As a huge fan of the original. I wanted to love this movie but despite all the violence it’s so goofy that the film can almost feel family friendly . Especially when the smart kid is in so many scenes you’d think you’re watching a Jurassic Park movie. It also makes it predictable that the kid won’t die and his dad will always save him. There’s also a Predator dog that becomes loyal to one of the humans.
So this can almost feel like that they used a fan script. No though, it’s co-written by Shane Black. Who was in the first Predator as the one who tells dirty jokes on Arnold’s team. Here he pretty much wrote every character to be the wise guy and have sleazy one-liners. Which feels one dimensional. While he misses the mark by having tough guy soldiers vs the Predator again. Since this time they are hard to take seriously. It’s like the A-Team vs the Predator. It’s one big buddy comedy. That’s more about the humans than Predators.
