Review of The Power of One (1992) by Marcy B — 04 Jun 2011
For me, this is Shawshank Redemption meets Million Dollar Baby. The storyline was so intelligent and so powerful. John G. Avildsen keeping on the fast and successful track of boxing material does it again.
After Rocky, Avildsen puts twice as much effort into this. The Power of One is gritty, moving and extremely effective. A smooth blend of the storyline with apartheid in South Africa. I am truly impressed by this film.
It alarming nature and presence reminds me of Schindler's List but of course they are two totally different films. Superb film but unfortunately Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven reaped the benefits, exempting The Power of One from ultimate commercial success.
Others need to see this. Great film.
