Had potential but ultimately overstayed its welcome. The story seemed told, but then kept going. It just drifted for the last 30 minutes or so.
Good acting by Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange, but that's a given, in both cases.
The original 1946 version was better - tighter plot (though this version stayed fairly true to the original script), more suspenseful. As good as Lange and Nicholson were in this movie, the incredible beauty and presence of Lana Turner and the swagger of John Garfield make the orginal much more memorable.
