Review of The Post (2017) by Scott Z — 29 Dec 2017
Difficult to watch Meryl Streep have her self righteous diatribe over Trump and then her hypocritical worship ('he is a god") of a man who raped women. As for Tom Hanks, I can't watch him without visualizing his claim that Trump would win "about the time little green aliens came to earth from out space and . . . .". Although Tom Hanks is a true acting talent. Just not recently.
The moral to this story is pretty clear for anyone capable on intelligent logical and critical thinking. It is exposing government classified information is good if done during a republican presidency but bad if done during a democrat presidency.
That said, the movie was obviously rushed to production for political reasons. The acting is poor to good. The script is worse. It is awful to poor. The audience reaction in the theater I was in, was disappointment.
The movie is factually inaccurate in critical areas. Nixon inherited Vietnam from JFK and LBJ. The classified information he was trying to protect reflected poorly on JFK and LBJ, NOT Nixon. The leaking of this classified information did horrific damage to our reputation in the world and endangered lives of soldiers fighting a war in Vietnam.
Watergate had NOTHING to do with the Pentagon Papers and has no place in this movie except to try to deceive ignorant people.
What is also conveniently left out is Bradlee's love of and his close relation with JFK. The shared a deep and abiding affection for porn and other related interests.
