Review of The Post (2017) by Laura H — 16 Jan 2018
For me this movie has it all. Completely relevant to the times. Spectacular performances by the entire cast including of course Streep and Hanks. Speilberg kept me on my toes throughout. John Williams score was so good that I noticed it building with the story.
..or perhaps kept the story building. I was completely enthralled by Streep's ability to portray a woman "of her time" in power who was terrified of her power. Such a nuanced performance by Streep.
It's subtlety may not win her the Oscar but it sure should. I felt her...and those times...throughout. It does not go into depth about the Pentagon Papers so it helps to remember(or have read of) the cast of charaters and how this evolved and the import of it.
But it's not necessary to get the gist of this film. I might have given it 4 or 4.5 stars if all of the other elements hadn't come together in a bermuda Triangle of greatness. Go see it.
