Hannah's solid script flounders under the weight of Spielberg's trademark schmaltz and Streep's thoroughly uninteresting performance. While the craft is of course pleasant and admirable, this stoic, paint-by-numbers storytelling diminishes an important cautionary tale into something about as interesting as watching someone read aloud a newspaper article.
