Review of The Post (2017) by Kristin B — 29 Apr 2018
Knowing a little about the Pentagon Papers, I was confused when I saw that this movie was called "The Post" when the New York Times was the paper which first broke the story on this top secret study of the failing Vietnam War.
It seems that the head publisher and editor of the Washington Post lent themselves more to a portrayal by Streep and Hanks, which felt like the motivation for focusing on the then regional paper. While the story is interesting, and the topic is timely given the current administration's attitude towards the press, it ultimately had a cheesy biopic feel.
While it had potential and held my interest, it was not on the level of films depicting similar topics, such as All the President's Men and Spotlight.
