Review of The Polar Express (2004) by Matt M — 28 Oct 2013
Zemeckis has always had an interest in experimenting with animation, which became prominently evident with the remarkable Who Framed Rober Rabbit? Here, the experimentation almost takes him to the supervision of the creation of another type of animation which aims to make the characters look human.
Whether there is any point to this contradictory experimentation is up to the individual viewer. Truth is, The Polar Express doesn't exactly feel like the kind of landmark animation film that it perhaps aimed to be.
This Tom Hanks starring feature about a train taking a chosen few to the North Pole to visit Santa Claus is entertaining and a times exhilarating, but ultimately rather forgettable. Furthermore, it shows signs of possible precacious ageing.
