Review of The Polar Express (2004) by Cameron J — 24 Dec 2010
The initiation of his now infamous CGI movies, director extraordinaire Robert Zemeckis' "The Polar Express" breaks from your average animated film, having a more serious touch and allowing it to appeal to a wider range of family audiences.
It carries an extremely original and engaging story, strong characters, excellent directing and voice acting and, of course, phenomenal CG. Still, it is totally undeveloped and holds rushing, underused characters, cheesy moments, some faults in the CG's realism, expendable scenes and some unbelievable character behavior.
(I can buy that magic dictates most of the over-the-top events, but some of the characters do some harder-to-buy things) At the end of the day, however, "The Polar Express" is yet another stroke of genius from Zemeckis and a strong recommendation for the Christmas-anticipating family.
