Review of The Polar Express (2004) by Dann M — 24 Dec 2013
The Polar Express is one of the most magical and enchanting films since The Wizard of Oz. In fact, there are many similarities between the films. With the simple story of a boy going on a dreamlike journey to the North Pole, The Polar Express manages to include messages of faith, trust, and friendship.
The look of the film is beautifully done, with elaborate scenes and rich landscapes. Yet, the characters come off as a little rigid and lifeless do to the lack of texture in the CG animation. However, Tom Hanks does an excellent job at portraying the characters; which helps the audience get past the flaws.
And, Alan Silvestri ties the film together with a beautifully enchanting score. The Polar Express delivers a wonderful adventure that captures the magic of the season.
