Review of The Pledge (2001) by Sameer K — 28 Feb 2008
An intense and sad film. It is clear to see (not only because of the initial shot) what will happen to Nicholson's character, which makes it brilliantly and quietly affecting. Menges' cinematography is superb and the supporting cast immense.
So many actors (Rourke, Mirren, Clarkson, Del Toro) offer a scene or two of brilliance without sacrificing the story or greater purpose.
