Review of The Pledge (2001) by Adam G — 02 Feb 2004
So this Janet Jackson mess. I feel that I must comment on it, in some way:
It was a breast. Planned or unplanned, in the scheme of things, there are a lot more important things to talk about. Everyone is making such a ridiculous affair out of this, and the newscasters are freaking out.
Here is what my local newscaster (this is the truth. I have not made any of this up) actually reported about it.
NEWSCASTER: In other news, suspects have been apprehended in the case of a family buried alive... these suspects face the death penalty... the victims were maimed first, then buried in a shallow grave. Parents, be warned that this next news story may not be appropriate for younger children... at last night's Superbowl, a piece of Janet Jackson's costume came off, revealing her breast.
Now honestly... the maimed and buried alive thing would give me more nightmares than hearing about Janet Freaking Jackson's breast. But that's just me.
Do we live in a backwards country, or what? Since when is nudity so much more offensive than terrible murder?
