Review of The Pledge (2001) by Tony P — 13 Aug 2007
Although Sean Penn films often fall short, they always leave me thinking. The Pledge is a good character study about a man's progressive obsession, and Nicholson is perfectly subtle in his delivery.
Unfortunately his performance is buried under Penn's filmmaking, which is anything but subtle. Penn fails to DEVELOP the prgression, he just drops it down at odd times. Best thing about this movie are the cameos.
