Review of The Pledge (2001) by Stephen S — 30 Aug 2009
Pretty good I guess. Jack Nicholson is good here (though he's kinda weird at the same time) though the rest of the cast, except Aaron Eckhart, has something wrong with them...I don't know, maybe it's a motif or something.
Anyway, I thought Sean Penn's direction in this was really bad. Most of the time in a given scene, there's so many camera shots and lines of dialogue that are totally irrelevant! For example, almost every time there's a transition between scenes, Penn cuts to a group of birds flying.
My reaction after awhile was "WTF man?! can't u cut to anything else?!" It just got predictable and annoying after the first few examples. I wouldn't really recommend this film to anyone who doesn't like cop dramas/mysteries.
