The opening scenes felt kinda schizophrenic (the movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be a procedural or a character study), but that unevenness disappeared once the story moved out to the country, and the movie became an "Affliction"-style, paranoid character drama (which is a lot more interesting than a standard "Law and Order" procedural anyway).
