Review of The Pledge (2001) by Victor L — 01 Feb 2011

Lots of movie critics have said Sean Penn is one of the greatest actors of his generation, and I agree with that, but I also think he is a promising director, he just has to direct more often. The Pledge is an interesting opera prima which was sheltered by first-class performers: Jack Nicholson playing the lead, Robin Wright, Helen Mirren, Vanessa Redgrave, Benicio del Toro, Sam Shepard, among others, whose performances were short but touching and significant to the story.

The film is a thriller in the vein of Hitchcock's movies but unfortunately, this is not as great as Hitchcock's masterpieces. Anyway, this film is worth a look and have a more preponderant place because it is very underrated.
