Review of The Pledge (2001) by Gavin D — 20 Oct 2013
I am always grateful to walk into a film expecting greatness, and to walk out having experienced greatness. Such expectations are not often met in life. They were met here, however. Sean Penn's direction is spot on.
Jack Nicholson's immersion in this character, who is so unlike the ones he has played in films past, is superb. The Pledge succeeds at being a totally involving story of attempted redemption, love after loss, and the lengths at which a man will go to keep a promise.
