Review of The Player (1992) by Alvin Y — 19 Sep 2010

Robert Altman once again proves that he can make a movie that is about something that we watch like this one. What I like in this movie is that every scene here is so damn interesting and yet you could focus more on the character's story which is Griffin Mill. Though it has a lot of celebrity cameos, I think Altman's point in this movie is to show how Hollywood is making more money at the same time we see how a movie is made. Also, I'm a movie fan so why would I hate this kind of movie which is they talked a lot of Hollywood business here. Of course, we also have a story in here which is Mill receiving some death threats and tries to find that person whom he wants him dead, so he found a writer then he killed him, then the next day the dead writer's girlfriend is now Mill's girlfriend too and another threat begins again. Wow, that was a very interesting story, at the same time, we also see here that they were also making a movie and after a year, it was completed, and then at the ending, they are planning to make a movie about the story of this movie. Ahh, that was sort of a little messed up but still it works all the way from the opening tracking shot scene to its ending that I don't think would happen like that, so unpredictable!

â??The Playerâ?? is yet another amazing and very good film to watch when you feel you must see something about a movie about a movie which makes movie that is on a movie. Like other Altman's films like â??M.A.S.H.â??, â??Nashvilleâ??, this one has also a lot of famous stars casts, most cameos, most are not, I think is to see the whole key set-up of the place, plot, setting to perfectly fit to a one film so that we care more to the movie and not to the celebrities that we loved. And I'm going to say this once again, it is one of the best films of the 1990's and the year 1992, well I think Robert Altman is just a director whom I think most people just don't understand because of his movies but to me it was like nothing's wrong with Altman, he's one of the best directors ever though he died in 2006 (I think), still his movies will remain very significant, even though I haven't seen most of his films like â??Short Cutsâ??, I would still appreciate being a movie fan watching some great movies that are made by great directors like Robert Altman.
