Review of The Platform (2019) by Drakeupcall — 07 Feb 2021
The movie is about as subtle in its social commentary as the gratuitous violence on display. Their is literally dialogue to the effect of:
“why don’t we share” “What are you, a communist?”.
So yeah, a good deal of the dialogue flat out feels like it’s written by an angsty teen who just discovered socialism. The concept is also similarly shallow. I’ll grant that the movie does slowly draw you in. So in essence what the movie has going for it was a good amount of intrigue as to what the protagonist was going to do to shake this little hell up. Unfortunately the ending only left a hollow feeling for me in its poor execution. The worst part is, you come to the realisation that the protagonist could have not bothered himself in the slightest and the ending could have worked out just the same.
