Review of The Plague of the Zombies (1966) by Michael T — 02 Oct 2008
Did Romero see this film before he directed NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD? There is a terrific dream sequence in which Brook Williams imagines that he is in the village graveyard when the zombies all claw their way to the surface from their graves, surrounding the hapless doctor.
The zombies in this film are traditional Haitian undead, raised by the local squire to work in his unsafe Cornish coal mines. A nice piece from Hammer's golden age and featuring Andre Morell as the hero, he was one of Hammer's stock company of performers.
