Review of The Plague of the Zombies (1966) by Brian P — 01 Jul 2005
This is another atmospheric suspense tale from Hammer. It might be a bit slow paced for some. These aren't George Romero's zombies. The zombies themselves don't actually do much. They're simply slave labor for a homegrown voo doo cult that are the real villains of the film.
Much of the first half revolves around a mysterious illness, that eventually leads to the discovery of the zombies and ultimately to the hows and whys.
Good entertainment for those patient enough to handle it.
