Review of The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) by Liam C — 09 Dec 2013
What could have been a perfect film falls short to being a great film instead. The Directing, Cinematography, Score, And of course the performances are spot on, however the First and Third acts of the film seem to develop just a little bit too fast for its' own good.
We understand how the characters have developed over time, but that fact that it seems to always be in sort of a fast forward mode to make sure it milks all of its 140 Minute run time was a tad bit disappointing, mainly because I felt robbed of some character development that I knew happened in my head but didn't get to actually visibly see on screen.
I think this film would definitely benefit from some sort of extended directors cut, where perhaps we can some of those little things that didn't make it into the film because of the run time. This not testifying to the movies short comings, in a way it almost testifies to the films greatness because I was so wrapped up in the story, that I cared enough about those little details in my head and hoped to see the story slow down a little bit.
