Review of The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) by Bill B — 13 Mar 2014
(77%).
Very much one of those movies that's very good, yet for some reason doesn't create a tonne of hype, or a huge trail of award nominations. This was sold to me as a movie about a guy who rips off banks to support his family, which is true, but that aspect is only a quarter of the whole story as much of it takes place after such events. This is a well written/directed/acted piece that's truly worth a watch, and although it may not be a contender for the best film ever made, it's still much better than your typical cinema fodder that once weekly gets crapped onto the screens.
