Review of The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) by Don A — 14 Apr 2014
This might be one of my favorite films of all time! The greatest thing about this movie was not only how amazing Gosling did in his estimated 50 minute scenes or my personal favorite actor, Cooper did as the film progresses but the way how the story flows! Sure, they could've used some obvious stuff like when one story ends, blackout and fade into the new story.
When the director was editing this with the editor, he basically said, "SCREW CLICHES! I want this film to be as unique as possible!" Well.........he did it and it turned out to be such a great move! Not only did Gosling and Cooper succeed in their performances, DeHaan is clearly continuing to prove that he's on his way! From a found footage film like Chronicle to a bootlegger in Lawless to a crook's son in this film to Peter Parker's best friend/nemesis in The Amazing Spider-Man 2! This guy is INSANELY dynamic!
