I waited a long while to see this, but my goodness gracious, The Place Beyond The Pines? is a TERRIBLE film. The worst I've seen Ryan Gosling in, which is saying a fair bit - I saw both The Ides of March? & Gangster Squad?.
It slathers (beautifully photographed) excrement onscreen and calls it art. Instead of letting theme arise from story, Derek Cianfrance? ham-fistedly contorts the story to make his (stupid & simple-minded) points.
It's the cinematic equivalent of the tail wagging the dog.
