Review of The Pixar Story (2007) by Luxo J — 20 May 2010
My 50th review on this website, so I thought I might do it on something that's special to me, my favourite documentary,.
THE PIXAR STORY.
Leslie Iwerks brings us the story of how Pixar got started up, and the stories of the troubles they faced making each of their movies, from TOY STORY to CARS. The documentary also says about the success they have got and what they strive to do.
Well, I'm a Pixar fan, so of course I was going to like this doco. But before I watched it, I only liked Pixar because of just their movies they made, but I never realised why their movies were known as so good and I was never really inspired by what these people had done to make these movies. After watching this I became really inspired, but there was one person who is so inspirational to me, and that's John Lasseter, director of TOY STORY, A BUG'S LIFE, TS2 and CARS. If you have seen this documentary, then you might understand why I find him so inspirational. We all know that TOY STORY is a great movie, but what John Lasseter and everyone at Pixar went through to make it and the success they got, it made me want to make movies the way they do.
Another thing I loved about THE PIXAR STORY was the stories behind Pixar's movies. After watching I looked at their movies in a different way. I learned a lot from this documentary, I was most impressed by the story behind my favourite movie, TOY STORY 2. I learned that my favourite movie actually could have turned out to be a big failure, but Pixar really defined themselves after making this such a big hit. If I hadn't seen this documentary, then TS2 might not be my favourite movie by now because I always liked it as a kid because I could relate to Andy, but now I've gotten older and I can't relate. But know I know what went behind that movie and I developed more appreciation for it. Not only for that, but for all of their movies.
Everyone should see this documentary whether you like Pixar or don't, or even if you don't even know who they are. My mum never heard of Pixar before I showed this to her, and now she understands why I would get all hyped up about that one animated movie every year. If you don't like Pixar, you will get more of an appreciation for them, and if you love Pixar, you will love them even more. Everyone watch it, it can be found on the WALL-E 2 DISC SPECIAL EDITION DVD and Blu-Ray.
Finally, I just have to say how great Pixar are. They really know how to make movies. By doing it the old fashioned way, by starting with a good story. I have grown up loving all of their movies and have never been disappointed by any of them. Their movies always lift my spirits, the other day my wallet was stolen and was really upset. But then I watched this doco, and my spirits were lifted again. Each Pixar film I know I will never grow out of because they have become a part of my life. I hope Pixar can continue entertaining everyone, for Infinity and Beyond.
Thanks for reading.
