Review of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012) by Gary D — 05 Aug 2012
The Pirates! Band Of Misfits! Quite unexpected movie from Aardman. It was quite good. But not one of the best of this year. It was kind of cliche and predictable. Very less witty and the colors were not that equiste like the old works of Aardman.
The story was like an overused plot. The scenes where things should be fast were slow and slow were fast in some instances. I don't think that this movie has the possibility of winning Oscars this year.
Not sure whether it would nominate as most of the animated movies this year were not that good. And to point out, I didn't expect they would satirize Queen Victoria, Darwin and Jane Austen to that extent.
Making Victoria an insane woman with an appetite to dine near extinct animals, it was quite unexpected. Well! I think it doesn't point out some environmental idea. I think it point out something else in a quite subtle manner.
I won't say it anyway. I don't know whether I should praise them for portraying historical people in such satirical manner. But I feel it was quite awkward to do so.
