Review of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012) by Jesse H — 26 Aug 2012
I'd like to begin by saying that "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" is a pretty good film. It is very funny, and has a lot of very funny jokes. However, I don't think it really matches up to some of Aardman's other works.
The reason for this is mainly because there are points where this film becomes rather stupid. Although Wallace & Gromit was rather silly, it felt more like a Monty Python form of silly rather then truly stupid.
That said, Pirates! is a very delightful film that is very funny, as long as you don't over evaluate the film's rather muddled plot and bizarre premise. Most of the voice actors do very good jobs in their roles, especially David Tennant as the funny, yet oddly named, Charles Darwin.
Overall, "Pirates! Band of Misfits" isn't Wallace & Gromit, but it is thoughtless fun and very enjoyable. 4 out of 5 stars.
