Review of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012) by Stephen R — 07 Jul 2013
Before seeing this film, I wondered whether Aardman could still stand up to the name they had set themselves throughout the many years they have been active, from Wallace and Gromit to Arthur Christmas. I believed that maybe their comedy style was becoming stale. As I sat through the film, I just had to smile, not only because of the hilarious jokes but also at myself for ever doubting the capability of Aardman to make me laugh. If you are looking for a hilarious film that won't stop you laughing from start to finish, then look no further than The Pirates! With a wonderful cast of well-known actors and actresses from all across the world, the characters will be brought to life with little falter.
I also had the opportunity to view this film in the very overrated, in my opinion, "3D", which I had also been expecting to be just the gimmick it has been in many other huge blockbuster films, such as the recent re-release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, but I was wrong again about that. I can safely say that the use of 3D in this film is definitely one of the best I have ever seen, if not THE best. I was pleasantly surprised as I put on my glasses with the amount of effort that had obviously gone into the 3D aspect. Well done, Aardman!
