Great movie! Don't rent it -- buy it, preferably on Blu-Ray. You'll want to take about ten hours going through this thing frame-by-frame to enjoy all the little tidbits in each scene.
Unfortunately, the DVD didn't have a bonus feature showing how the film was made. It LOOKS like claymation -- except there's no way in hell it's claymation, it's too amazing for that. My guess is a blend of claymation and CGI. That's a pretty weird way to make a movie if you think about it, mixing old-school with high-tech.
