Review of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012) by Hrant B — 10 Oct 2013
Silly, irreverent and funny - like Monty Python lite for younger viewers, giving them a taste of good old fashioned wry British humor. A goofy tongue-in-cheek joke is frequently around the corner, which helps drive the movie's energy.
The animation also helps. The facial expressions, etc., are just funny. This is a pretty intelligent movie that doesn't patronize its youth audience as it tells the story of endangered species, specifically a dodo, but the pirates are also endangered by the newly industrialized world.
The pirates end up saving several endangered animals from the clutches of greed & excess (world powers). The movie also provides a lesson on staying loyal & faithful to one's friends and the consequences of selling them out to be one of the cool kids.
This should be on any family's rental list or DVD shelf.
