The Pirates! Band of Misfits (2012).
If you're a big fan of Chicken Run (2000) or Wallace & Gromit and the Curse of the WereRabbit (2005), you're going to love this animated swashbuckler comedy that is fun for kids and adults. There's also a hidden agenda about not hunting and eating endangered animals and the chase for acceptance/acclaim.
The luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant) is well loved by his motley crew, especially on ham night. But he has dreams of winning the coveted Pirate of the Year Award. But competition is fierce with Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven), Peg Leg Hastings (Lenny Henry) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) in the running. Pirate Captain seems to always fall short.
Then he meets up with Charles Darwin (David Tennant) who has dreams of acclaim from his fellow scientists and explorers. He gets one look at Pirate Captain's extinct Do Do Bird, Polly and tells the Captain of "untold riches" sailing him back to London.
Of course they need to be careful not to be discovered by pirate-hating Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton) and stay away from Darwin's servant man-panzee, Mr. Bobo.
