Review of The Pillow Book (1995) by Justin L — 08 Apr 2008
Erotic, complex, beautifully shot and composited film from Peter Greenaway. This film is incredibly complex (and is really confusing at first) but it's completely worth sticking with and one of the more rewarding films I've seen recently.
The cinematography (both black and white and color) is a real stand out here and worth seeing it for alone. Definitely not for all tastes as it borders on experimental film, playing with different aspect ratios and subtitles to tell the story.
It's also rather graphic in it's portrayal of raw sexuality, which the film benefits from greatly.
