Review of The Piano Teacher (2001) by Sabrina J — 21 Jan 2008
One of the weirdest films I've seen in ages. Isabelle Huppert plays a piano teacher who has a fetish for pain. She starts a relationship with one of her students Benoit Magimel who is gorgeous. She has very over bearing mother, who basically controls every aspect of her daughters life.
The film is powerful and the acting superb and you really feel for the characters. I can see why she would want to kill her mother, and why her lover becomes agitated and impatient. You can also see its Erika (Isabelle huppert) call out for love and freedom which is why she acts the way she does.
The film is very slow to start off with which makes you impatient, but I think this was the directors motive and the ending is so simple it infuriates you. brilliant film.
