Review of The Piano Teacher (2001) by Jack F — 21 Oct 2009
This, along side Hidden and Funny Games, is my favorite Michael Haneke film. It's cold, nasty and hard to watch, but there is something about this which makes it so enthrawling and powerful. Huppert's performance is breathtaking, she portrays the heartless creature Erika in such an amazing way, no other actress could have pulled it off.
I recommend this film to anyone, only if you have the stomach because it is one full on film. Haneke's work is most noteable here, with slow, long takes, precise, symetrical direction and cold performances.
I couldn't take my eyes off the screen although I wanted to in some spots. This is masterpeice, but enter at your own risk.
