A very disturbing but highly fascinating film from the always controversial Michael Haneke. Isabelle Huppert is the axis on which the film moves as a tightly wound piano instructor who desires to engage in perverse behavior with a talented young student.

The way in which she attempts to pursue this is unsettling; strange letters, a horrific act of vengeance on a young girl, and general desires that are unspeakable. Some of the side characters are sorely underdeveloped, but Huppert is the central focus throughout anyway.

A film that is highly effective in unnerving the viewer, but is artistic throughout it's execution.
