Review of The Piano (1993) by Todd S — 23 Feb 2010
The Piano: Jane Campions account of fetishistic paino love is so absurd and derisory that it makes it not only a difficult watch but one of zero texture and authenticity. I appreciate such twisted outlooks and variety of approach but The Piano is so extreme in its pretention that I lost interest and trust in the narrative half way through.
The fiercely erotic sex scenes only further raise the eye brow when The Piano becomes further embroiled in an illicit affair. The acting is above par, and Keitel does prove his worth in his role but I didn't get the concept and I didn't fall for the characters which means Campion cannot avoid a rotten rating for this piece.
44/100.
