Review of The Piano (1993) by Ennis Brokeback L — 26 Oct 2013
A mute 19th century woman in New Zealand who is only able to express herself emotionally through her beloved piano, is married off to a patriarchal landowner. However, she experiences sexually awakening in an illiterate settler covered in Maori tattoos.
Rightly recognised as an important work exploring the theme of feminism, this film also made a universally recognised talent out of director Jane Campion.
