Review of The Pianist (2002) by Erin W — 28 Feb 2013
This is a very grim drama about a gifted Jewish pianist from Poland who lives in fear of being sent to a Nazi concentration camp. Roman Polanski certainly pulls no punches with very graphic violence, which includes shootings at point-blank range.
It's a rather long film, but although it is a bit slow at times, it is a fine portrayal of a true story which is harrowing to watch, but at the same time draws you in with its beauty.
