Review of The Pianist (2002) by Logan V — 15 Apr 2011
One of Roman Polanski's best movies, and also one of the best movies ever. The movie follows Wladyslaw Szpilman a pianist (obviously)and his life throughout the holocaust. Evrything about the movie is done fantastically.
From the writing to the acting to the cinematography. Seeing as how it was based on a real ife story from the holocaust it comes as no suprise that the writing is fantastic. As for the acting it is mostly just Brody in front of the camera.
He does a fantastic job and at times he really embodied Spzpilman. Definetly deserved that Oscar. The cinematography is some of the best that I can remember. There are quiet a few shots that really make you feel like you were there.
In these cases its Wladyslaw mostly looking at a window as Nazi's raid the building next door and kill most everybody inside. Or when a group of Nazis walking down the street get shot at. Another part that I found interesting was how a nazi saved his life, but almost got him killed.
Now all that we know about him is his name and that he died in a Russian POW camp. Great movie, 5 stars.
