Review of The Pianist (2002) by Yu I — 24 Aug 2012
There is nothing interesting or even particularly inspiring about the character's survival in war-torn Poland. The film becomes an exercise in monotony which follows the character through the streets and rubbished apartments of Warsaw into the countryside.
The film is an overlong matter-of-fact survival piece, with little dialogue, little action, no real commentary, and thuddingly uninspired cinematography. The film that was designed to be sentimental not only failed to move me, but also to interest me.
