Review of The Pianist (2002) by Mitch B — 16 Jan 2013
The best film of 2002! Nothing against Schindler's List, The Diary of Anne Frank, or any other Holocaust film, but Roman Polanski's The Pianist is the greatest film devoted to that devastating period of human history.
This is in large part due to Brody's incredible performance as Wladyslaw Szpilman. We're with him every step of the way. Living in squalor, scrounging for food, performing manual labor for his Nazi occupiers, and eventually finding salvation almost unexpectedly.
Every accolade and award showered on this film was justly deserved, and it arguably deserved even more. Not to sound cliche, but this film can literally change a viewer's perception of the world. It will change you to the core and make you appreciate every simple thing you have and even the things you have lost.
