Review of The Philadelphia Experiment (1984) by Jason G — 26 Feb 2008
Instead of taking memorable, entertaining televison shows from the 60's and 70's and "re-making" them into horrible, substandard motion pictures.... HOLLYWOOD should go back to the 80's and try to remake a handful of films that were far too"high-concept" to succeed at the time.
The Philadelphia Experiment is one of those movies...
A great concept (based on an "allegedly" true story...) this film suffers from being made in an era when if your budget was just a few million short of a certain magic number... your movie would "LOOK" like crap. (Especially in the effects department).
The special effects in PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT are tear-inducing, shoulder-cringing, face - wincingly bad.... but if you can overlook this... you'll probably enjoy the film.
A year or so later... ROBERT ZEMEKIS would come along with a decent budget and show us how to make a visually fantastic time-travel movie.
Good story... watch it for that.
