Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Lewis C — 29 May 2012
It lacks a convincing romance which doesn't make any sense, is stuck in an annoying love triangle and doesn't go anywhere. Even for a musical, it had way too much singing. It would have been better with more dialogue in most scenes.
Also, it's hard to feel sympathy for any of the characters. You'll find yourself wishing that they'd all be killed by the Phantom and be done with it. Still, a pretty good performance is given by Gerard Butler but it's not enough to save the movie.
